It is the main stock exchange in the Philippines and is now not only one of the largest stock exchanges in Southeast Asia , but also one of the oldest stock exchanges in Asia , starting in 1927. December 31, 2008 246 listed companies had a market capitalization of 51.88 billion at the Philippine Stock Exchange dollars listed. The 32 largest companies by market capitalization are summarized in the PSEi index.

history

The Philippine Stock Exchange was created on December 23, 1992 through the merger of the Manila Stock Exchange (MSE), founded in 1927, and the Makati Stock Exchange (MkSE), which had existed since 1963 . The MSE, initially based in Manila , moved its headquarters to Pasig City in 1992 , whereas the MkSE has been in Makati City since it was founded. Even after the merger to form PSE, both locations will continue to exist , so floor trading will take place in two spatially separate trading rooms. Since March 1994, however, both floors have been linked in a central computer system, the MakTrade System, so that trading takes place via a central point, regardless of which of the two locations an order is placed. Currently, the Philippine Stock Exchange has the shortest trading hours in Asia, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. In 2002, as a test, trading from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. was extended to the afternoon, but since this period overlapped with the trading interruption at noon on the neighboring stock exchanges in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, this did not have the desired effect and it did went back to the previously applicable trading hours after just eight months.

In 2001, following the entry into force of the Philippine Securities Regulation Code , the Philippine Stock Exchange was transformed from a member-managed company into a publicly traded, profit-making public company. PSE shares have been publicly traded since December 15, 2003.

Since 2004 in the Official BEEN CEO Francis Ed. Lim resigned on February 14, 2010. His successor in this office is Val Antonio B. Suarez.
