Pasig City (officially: City of Pasig ; Filipino : Lungsod ng Pasig ) is a city in the Philippine capital region of Metro Manila in the CALABARZON region . In 2010, Pasig City lived 669,773 people on 31 km². The city is divided into 30 barangays (districts).
geography
The center of Pasig is about 10 kilometers east of the center of Manila. To the east, the province of Rizal borders the urban area. The city is crossed by the Pasig River, which flows westward from the nearby Laguna de Bay lake into Manila Bay .
history
The place was founded in 1572, making it one of the oldest cities in the Philippines. Prior to the creation of Metro Manila in 1975, Pasig City was the capital of Rizal Province, founded in 1901 .
Since 2003 the city has been the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Pasig . Episcopal Church is the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral , which was built in 1572.
