Paste package from the beginning

history

In February 1953, Henkel began producing a non-toxic, methyl cellulose- based wallpaper paste . Metylan paste prevailed in the handicrafts and replaced the previous paste and adhesive methods based on bone glue and plant starch . When the first hardware stores opened in the 1960s, “Metylan special” was introduced for the do-it-yourselfer in 1963. Today it is considered a classic among wallpaper paste. In 1998 Metylan added wallpaper strippers and products for substrate preparation to its range, and in 1999 with fillers. In 2008, a new production facility for methyl cellulose was built at the Henkel site in Düsseldorf- Holthausen, increasing the production volume to 10,500 tons per year. In 2010, Henkel developed a liquid paste concentrate for easy and lump-free mixing of the paste.
