Mexx is an international clothing manufacturer based in the Netherlands.

history

In 1980, Rattan Chadha founded the clothing brands Mustache (for men) and Emanuelle (for women). The brand name Mexx was created by stringing together the first letters of the two labels and a double "X", which is supposed to symbolize two kisses.

From 2001 to September 2011 Mexx was majority owned by Liz Claiborne Inc. , a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange that markets fashion, accessories, design and perfume internationally. Today Mexx is an internationally known fashion brand that operates in more than 65 countries on four continents and employs over 3000 people.

On September 2, 2011, Liz Claiborne Inc. announced that it had sold a majority stake in the American private equity company The Gores Group. A new holding was established over the Amsterdam-based Mexx BV, in which Liz Claiborne holds a minority stake of 18.75%, while The Gores Group's stake is 81.25%.

On December 4, 2014, Mexx filed for bankruptcy for all business units.

In January 2015, the Turkish textile group Eroglu took over the fashion chain and would like to keep the brand.

On August 15, 2017 it was announced that Mexx had been sold to the Dutch RNF Group.
