Michael Berg (* 1942 in Berlin ) is a German psychologist who works primarily in the field of developing psychological test procedures . Coming from a school of cognitive psychology , he introduced the experimental way of thinking into the construction and validation of test procedures, using the constituent approach he described in 1993 . The approach enables the construction of test systems in which the individual tests have defined cross-connections and enable diagnostic statements to be made more precise by relating the tests to one another. The method most recently developed by Berg for recording cognitive functions is the theory-guided validated test system Corporal, current version Corporal Plus , which has so far been used primarily in the diagnosis of fitness to drive .

In his more recent publications, Berg dealt, among other things, with problems of validating test procedures in applied areas using the example of traffic psychology .

Career

Michael Berg studied psychology at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1967 to 1971. From 1971 to 1991 he was active in teaching and research at Humboldt University, initially in the fundamentals area. He received his PhD in 1980 . From 1983 to 1988 he worked as a teacher and researcher in the Diagnostic Center (PdZ), where he completed his habilitation in 1988 , and was involved in its management in 1991. From 1991 to 1993 he worked for Schuhfried Ges.mbH, where he worked in the methods area. He ran the development of his own test system Corporal in his own institute for test development and application (ITEA) from 1993 to 2007. From 1996 to 2012 he worked as a psychological expert in the driving suitability assessment at DEKRA eV. Berg has been the licensor and scientific advisor for the further development of the Corporal test system at Vistec AG Olching since 2007.
