Michael Nagele

Michael Nagele (born August 22, 1884 in Thon , Grafenstein municipality ( Carinthia ), † June 5, 1969 in Bludenz ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and federal railway official. From 1945 to 1954 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Nagele first graduated from elementary school and after completing compulsory school learned the trade of blacksmith like his father did. In 1908 he moved to Vorarlberg and from 1910 worked as a worker for the kk state railways in Feldkirch and as a worker for the state railways in Bludenz. He served in the Austrian Army in 1914 and 1915 during World War I. Later he was employed as a foreman for the Austrian Federal Railways.

Politics and functions

Nagele was involved in local politics in Bludenz and in the local branch of the Social Democratic Party. In 1926 he took over the function of local party chairman of the Bludenz Social Democratic Party and in the same year also became the district chairman of the Bludenz Social Democratic District Organization. He also worked as a member of the Bludenz community council from 1929. In the course of the Austrian civil war and the subsequent ban on the Social Democratic Party, Nagele lost his mandate in the Bludenz municipal council as well as his internal party functions.

After the Second World War, Nagele was again chairman of the SPÖ local group in Bludenz between 1945 and 1950 and also district party chairman of the SPÖ Bludenz from 1945 to 1950. He also became a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vorarlberg and worked again between 1947 and 1950 as the municipal council of Bludenz. He was also a housing consultant for the city of Bludenz and from 1946 to 1954 a member of the board of trustees of the state fire insurance. As a member of the Bludenz constituency, he was sworn in on December 11, 1945 as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament. He was a member of the state parliament until October 28, 1954, where he was a member of the Legal Committee in its first legislative period and, from 1948, a member of the Finance Committee. From 1949 he was a member of the Education Committee.

Private

Michael Nagele was born as the son of master blacksmith Michael Nagele from Ebenthal and his wife Anna Nagele nee. Simoner born from Kötschach . He married Maria Kren (1886–1985) , who was born in Stillfried , and had a daughter (* 1918) and a son (* 1923) with her.
