Michael Nägler

Michael Nägler (* 1957 ) is a German Xiangqi player.

The doctor of radiology works at a clinic in Lingen and has been playing the Chinese xiangqi since his first visit to China in 1988.

He is President of the German Xiangqi Federation (DXB) and Vice President of the European Xiangqi Federation (EXF).

Six times (1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2007) Nägler became German champion, making him the record holder. He took part in several world championships. At the 2005 World Cup in Paris , Nägler was 38th out of 70 starters and achieved 5.5 points from 11 games (50%), making it second in the non-Chinese / Vietnamese ranking.

The best result of a non-Asian so far at a world championship in Xiangqi was granted to Norbert Schäfer, who finished 34th out of 76 participants at the 1997 World Cup in Hong Kong .
