Michael of Tokat

Michaĕl von Tokat (* around 1595 in Tokat , † around 1660 in Istanbul ) was an Armenian copyist and miniaturist .

Michaĕl, who was born in Tokat and probably trained and can be traced back to Constantinople from 1606, was one of the most important copyists of his time within the Armenian Apostolic Church . More than 30 manuscripts have survived from his production. Some of your miniatures come from himself and some from someone else's hand. In terms of content, he mainly made copies of biblical and liturgical texts of the Armenian rite .
