Michalis Kaltezas

Michalis Kaltezas ( Greek Μιχάλης Καλτεζάς , * 1970 ; † November 19, 1985 ) was a Greek teenager. He was shot in the head when he was 15 years old in clashes with security forces in the Exarchia neighborhood of Athens .

During the social protests in Athens, the policeman Athanasios Melistas shot the youth Michaelis Kaltezas in the head . The shooting of Michaelis Kalezas led to heavy protests across the country against the authorities. Kaltezas is considered a martyr of the Greek left and autonomous scene. Policeman Athanasios Melistas received a suspended sentence and was acquitted in early 1990.

In December 2008, another 15-year-old boy was shot dead by the police during protests. This act also happened in the Exarchia neighborhood under similar circumstances. Then there were heavy protests nationwide .
