Microsoft BackOffice Server was a program package available from Microsoft . In addition to the current server operating system of the Windows NT series, it contained numerous additional programs such as the Internet Information Server , Microsoft SQL Server , Systems Management Server and others.
The first BackOffice Server was based on Windows NT 3.5 and was released in 1994. With BackOffice Server 4.5 a variant called BackOffice Small Business Server was introduced for the first time , which was intended for small businesses, for example the number of client access licenses was limited and certain software was not included.
The last version of the BackOffice Server was BackOffice Server 2000 . The product was discontinued, only the Small Business Server variant was sold under the name Windows Small Business Server .
