Windows Small Business Server

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Windows Small Business Server (SBS) was a line of products from Microsoft . It was geared to the needs of small and medium-sized companies and was based on the current server product of the Windows NT series, but contained numerous additional programs.

The Small Business Server originated from the Small Business Server version of the Microsoft BackOffice Server . After the BackOffice Server was discontinued in 2000, the Small Business Server variant was continued as an independent product.

In 2012 Microsoft announced the discontinuation of the product line.

Basics

The Small Business Server was available in two versions: the standard version contained, in addition to Windows itself, the products Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services , the premium version also contained Microsoft SQL Server . Depending on the version, other products were included.

Because the Small Business Server was only intended for small businesses, there were a number of limitations. For example, the Small Business Server only supported 75 client access licenses.

Windows Small Business Server 2011 introduced another Essentials variant. This was limited to 25 client access licenses and contained no software at all except for Windows, as it was intended for use in the cloud .
