Microsoft PlaysForSure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PlaysForSure was a Microsoft certification that confirms to portable media players that they support the digital rights management of Windows Media Player 10 and that some of them can only be managed with this. Also online music services have been provided with the emblem.

Microsoft came under fire when it emerged that the PlaysForSure license prohibited alternative formats that did not come from Microsoft. After a court ruling due to the monopoly, the strict license text was corrected.

Microsoft's own Zune platform never supported PlaysForSure. In 2007, PlaysForSure was replaced by the “Certified for Windows Vista” certificate.
