Berlin tenant community

The Berliner MieterGemeinschaft e. V. is the second largest tenant organization in Berlin . It is an advocacy group in the area of tenancy law (tenants and prospective tenants) and has around 23,000 members (as of 2008).

history

The organization was founded on March 17, 1952 by tenants of the housing company GEHAG as "Mietergemeinschaft GEHAG eV". On August 9, 1958, it changed its name to its current name.

From the 1960s to the 1980s, the community was also involved in the squatter movement and rent control. Against the introduction of the " White Circle " in 1987, with which the abolition of the rental price control , it organized one of the largest collections of signatures in the history of West Berlin with around 500,000 signatures .

The organization is not a member of the German Tenants' Association and its regional associations.

publication

A publication is issued several times a year as a print and online medium. The "MieterEcho" informs members and other readers about tenancy law, especially in Berlin.
