Mieze (also Miez or Miese, Mies) meaning " cat " has been used in German since the 18th century. A nickname is assumed to originate from the onomatopoeic “mi”, the call with which the cat lures its young. "Kitty" as a name for a cat does not have to be meant seriously. At the end of the 19th century, however, “Miez” was still used in Brehm's Thierleben . There are also the derived compositions kitty and kitty

Other uses

  • Mieze is considered a nickname for Maria and Minna .
  • The strawberry variety Mieze Schindler 1925 is said to have been named after the wife of the breeder Otto Schindler .
  • A vulgar use in the sense of “girl” or “bed companion” is attributed to a transference of “cat” - “female sexual organ” - “woman”.
  • Mieze (or Mieze Katz ) is also the stage name of the singer of the band MIA.
  • Mieze is a main character in the novel Berlin Alexanderplatz .
