Mihraç Ural , also known as Ali al-Kayyali in Syria ( Arabic علي الكيالي, DMG ʿAlī Al-Kayyālī ; *  1956 in Hatay ) is a pro-government Turkish militia chief in the Syrian civil war in the Latakia region . His militia was founded in 2012 and is called al-Muqāwama as-Sūriyya ( Arabic المقاومة السورية 'Syrian Resistance'). The full name is al-Muqawama as-Sūriyya - al-Dschabha ash-scha'biyya li-Tahrir Liwā 'Iskandarūn (Syrian opposition - the Popular Front for the Liberation of the province of İskenderun ).

Life

In the 1970s, Ural was General Secretary of the left-wing extremist faction Acilciler , founded in 1975 , named after a series of publications The Urgent Problems of the Revolution in Turkey ( Türkiye devriminin acil sorunları ), which was published a few years after the death of Mahir Çayan and his comrades, from 1976 onwards the THKP-C emerged and dissolved by 1980. Ural fled after the 1980 military coup from Turkey to Syria . There he enjoyed the protection of Jamil al-Assad , the younger brother of the then President Hafiz al-Assad , and married his secretary Malak Fadal.

The Urals are of Arab origin and Nusairian . In Syria he is called Ali al-Kayyali. He is accused of participating in a massacre in the village of Baida , near the city of Banyas . Immediately after the massacre, he spoke in a video about the need to clean up the region. Numerous voices in Turkey consider the Urals to be a seedy double agent who has betrayed many people. In the press he is also named as one of the people responsible for the attack in Reyhanli in May 2013, in which 50 people died. For its part, the Urals described Israel as the mastermind behind the terrorist attack.

In the Syrian government paper Tishreen Urals was described as an author and strategic researcher. In the newspaper he attributed the predicament of Syria to the fact that the country had resisted imperialist exploitation for half a century.

On March 29, 2016, the rebel group Ahrar al-Sham reported that the Urals had been killed by mortar fire in the province of Latakia. Al-Masdar News reported on October 26, 2016 that the Urals survived the attempted assassination.

At the end of January 2018, the Urals were seen as participants in a Syria conference between Russia, Turkey and Iran in Sochi. The Turkish delegation then asked the Russian Defense Ministry to clarify.
