Microaerophilic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In biology, microaerophil describes a property of aerobic microorganisms . Microorganisms are called microaerophilic and can grow best when the oxygen concentration in the nutrient medium is significantly lower than when saturated with normal air (~ 20% oxygen). According to another definition, microaerophilic microorganisms are only active at an oxygen concentration of less than 1–2% of the saturation concentration below 20% oxygen. Examples of microaerophilic bacteria: representatives of the genus Campylobacter and Helicobacter .
