Microcapillary

Injection of a spermatocyte into an oocyte using a microcapillary

A microcapillary is a small diameter capillary . Microcapillaries are mostly made of glass . A 5 microliter capillary, for example, has a length of 3.2 cm with an inner radius of 0.022 cm.

use

Microcapillaries are used in medicine to take blood after a lancet stab . In chemistry they are used to apply samples in thin layer chromatography . Furthermore, they are used for nebulization of samples in the electrospray ionization - mass spectrometry used (ESI-MS). In biology, microcapillaries are used for cell nucleus transfer when generating clones with a micromanipulator , for intracytoplasmic sperm injection and for injection into individual nerve cells in conjunction with the patch clamp technique . Metal microcapillaries are used in push-pull perfusion .
