Microphage
Microphage is the name for neutrophil granulocytes and eosinophil granulocytes , which are able to phagocytose small particles such as bacteria . The term, like the name “ macrophage ”, goes back to Ilja Ilyich Metschnikow , but is practically no longer in use today. He used it to designate cells that are involved in the process of enveloping and engulfing foreign bodies in starfish , which he called phagocytosis in 1883 .
In the lexicon of geography , microphages are also referred to as filter feeders , strudlers or juices.
