Micropill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The micro pill is a hormonal contraceptive method for women. A micropill consists of a combination of a luteal hormone ( progestin ) and a follicular hormone ( estrogen ). It is a further development of the classic birth control pill , from which the micropill differs in that it has a significantly reduced hormone dose. The micro- pill is sometimes confused with the mini-pill (which only contains progestins). With the combination of estrogens and progestins, the micropill prevents ovulation ( ovulation inhibition ) and, if ovulation does occur, fertilization of the egg or its implantation in the uterus .

The pearl index of the micropill is the same as that of the conventional pill (0.1-0.9) with lower hormone doses.

In Germany, the costs are covered by the statutory health insurance until they are 22 years of age (until March 28, 2019, they are 20 years of age) .
