Miles Armitage is an Australian diplomat.

Career

Armitage holds an Honorary Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Museum Studies from the University of Sydney and a degree in Foreign Policy from the Australian National University .

Armitage served the Foreign Ministry initially in Manila , at the Permanent Mission of Australia to the United Nations in New York and in Islamabad . He was Deputy Head of Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and then Assistant Secretary for Parliamentary and Media Branch .

On November 17, 2010, Armitage was appointed Australian Ambassador to East Timor . He took office in 2011, succeeding Peter Heyward . On May 18, 2014, Armitage became a " Counter Terrorism Ambassador " based in Canberra . On May 4, 2016, he was appointed Ambassador of Australia to Jordan .

Others

Armitage speaks Portuguese and Tetum . He has two children.
