Milford (Donegal)
Milford ( Irish : Baile na nGallóglach ) is a country town in County Donegal in the north of the Republic of Ireland .
Milford is a small town near the southern tip of Mulroy Bay on the southwestern edge of the Fanad Peninsula in northern County Donegal, about 20 km north of Letterkenny . The number of inhabitants was determined in the 2016 census as 1037 people, which corresponds to an increase in the number of inhabitants of 25% since the 2006 census. In parliamentary terms , Milford is part of Donegal North East .
The place was founded in the 18th century by a Clement family. The Irish name Baile na nGallóglach means city of the Gallowglasses and refers to Scottish mercenaries of this name who supported the ancestral Irish people in a battle with the English invaders on the top of the hill in the village.
Today (2009) the place with three schools, an adult education center, health center and veterinary practice, a public library with municipal council offices, post office and fire station as well as a supermarket, four pubs and a three-star hotel on the outskirts has a social infrastructure that is quite typical for Irish small towns .
