Military Cross of Merit (Braunschweig)

In the Duchy of Braunschweig , two military merit crosses were donated between 1809 and 1918.

Military Cross of Merit from 1879

The Military Cross of Merit of 1879 was donated on December 11, 1879 by Duke Wilhelm von Braunschweig for military personnel of the Brunswick troops from sergeant down for particularly brave deeds.

The award is a gold-plated cross framed by raised double lines. In the medallion the inscription KRIEGS-VERDIENST, including two small laurel branches placed one on top of the other . On the reverse the initial (Wilhelm) in Gothic script, surmounted by a crownW .

The ribbon is crimson with yellow stripes.

The order was repealed on April 25, 1908.

Military Cross of Merit from 1914

The Military Cross of Merit of 1914 was donated on August 18, 1914 by Duke Ernst August von Braunschweig as an award for NCOs and men for particularly brave deeds.

The award is a silver-gilt pointed cross , which is bordered by raised double lines. In the medallion the inscription KRIEGS-VERDIENST, including two small laurel branches placed one on top of the other. On the reverse the intertwined initials surmounted by a crown E. A.(Ernst August).

The ribbon is crimson with yellow stripes.
