Military catering establishment
The military catering establishment was located in the 2nd district of Vienna in Obere Donaustraße 17-19 as a successor to the Leopoldstadt barracks, which were demolished in 1863-1865 .
It was built on the instructions of the War Ministry on part of the vacated site according to plans by the captain in the staff of genius Ferdinand Artmann as a brick building. In 1895 it was expanded to include a supply field equipment depot. The construction plans for it came from Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer .
During the First Republic , the central catering facility of the armed forces was located here .
In 1931 an urban residential building was built on part of the area on Oberen Augartenstrasse. Of the former military catering establishment , which has only been used for civilian purposes since 1945 ( Hammerbrotwerke , Wiener Stadtwerke), only the former administration building has existed since 1988. It is a listed building , has since been restored and adapted as an office building.
