Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace (MDE: WP) was an American television series that premiered on August 5, 2016 on Adult Swim .

Production and broadcast

On May 5, 2016, it was announced that the American television broadcaster Adult Swim requested a pilot episode from the sketch comedy group Million Dollar Extreme (MDE), which consists of members Sam Hyde, Nick Rochefort and Charls Caroll. The piloting success has been described as a "sketch show in an almost contemporary nightmare world". As a result of the pilot episode, it was announced on March 3, 2016 that Adult Swim, together with MDE, would initiate a series with the additional title 'World Peace'. The first season should follow the classic broadcasting principle. So six episodes appeared, each lasting eleven minutes.

Sam Hyde, Nick Rochefort, Charls Caroll were involved as authors and actors. The entire series was directed by Andrew Ruse, who has worked with the group for a number of years.

The first and last episodes of the series reached over a million viewers. The series overtook established adult swim programs such as The Eric André Show .

Deposition

On December 5, 2016, Adult Swim announced that there would be no further season of the series, according to Sam Hyde the station was interested in another season, but this was prevented by the Turner Broadcasting System group , which also includes the station Adult Swim , as he stopped working with MDE due to public allegations, which were mostly directed against Hyde.

The main reason for the dismissal were journalists who are said to have assigned Sam Hyde to the American Alt-Right movement . As evidence for this, activities on Hyde's Twitter profile were documented, as well as posts on the MDE Reddit page that were written by other users. The program, which was based more on socially critical representations than on a political direction, was ultimately canceled because pressure was exerted on the station and its advertisers by journalists, well-known people and private individuals.

Joseph Bernstein, a journalist for the tabloid magazine BuzzFeed, claimed in an article that the show itself contained discriminatory content, which is in contrast to Adult Swim's multicultural team and its Jewish directors. This article also had a significant impact on the situation. Some time before the interview, Hyde recorded with a webcam how he telephoned Joseph Bernstein for an interview in order to make fun of his behavior, the recordings he published on YouTube.

Hyde also mentioned several times that Tim Heidecker and Brett Gelman should also have played a decisive role in the dismissal. In an interview, Gellman described the series as a "neo-Nazi sketch show" and claimed that the show had an alleged right-wing extremist following. Tim Heidecker also spoke out against the broadcast in a live stream and called on his viewers to contact the station's advertisers directly. Hyde called Heidecker on his call-in-show Office Hours to discuss the situation.
