Milon I of Montlhéry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Milon I , called le Grand († around 1102) was a lord of Montlhéry and Bray-sur-Seine from the House of Montlhéry . He was a son of Guido I of Montlhéry and the Hoderine of Gometz, his brother was Guido the Red of Rochefort . In contemporary chronicles he is called Milon de Bray .

It is unclear how Milon got his nickname, presumably due to extensive deals and intrigues. Abbot Suger wrote that Milon-getting a disturber of peace against King Philip I was.

Milon was married to the Vice Countess Lithuise von Troyes, with whom he had the following children:

  • Guido II. Troussel († around 1110), lord of Montlhéry
  • Milon II († probably 1118), Lord of Bray-sur-Seine and Montlhéry, Vice-Count of Troyes
  • Emmeline, ∞ with Hugo II. Bardoul von Broyes
  • Rainald († 1122), Bishop of Troyes
  • Elisabeth, ∞ with Theobald von Dampierre-sur-Aube

Together with his eldest son and nephew, Erhard III. from Le Puiset , Milon took part in the first crusade . Because his son deserted at the siege of Antioch in 1098, Milon and his brother Guido von Rochefort took part in the subsequent crusade of 1101 to restore family honor. He traveled with his nephew Joscelin von Courtenay and the Vice Count Eudes Herpin von Bourges . He died in the holy land, probably in the second battle of Ramla .
