Milreis

The Milreis [... 'rɛiʃ] ( Portuguese mil-réis , from mil = " thousand " and réis ) was a Portuguese currency unit that was introduced in 1854. It was also used in Brazil between 1849 and 1926 . One milreis corresponds to 1000 rice. The sign for Milreis is very similar to the dollar sign .

By 1913 a Brazilian milreis was worth about 1.36 marks.
