Minami Centrair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minami-Centrair ( Japanese 南 セ ン ト レ ア 市 , Minami-Sentorea-shi ) was the originally intended name of a city in the Japanese prefecture of Aichi , which was to arise from the amalgamation of the communities of Minamichita and Mihama .

The name, which is unusual for a Japanese city and is partly written in Katakana (a syllabary), consists of the first half of the name Minamichita and the name of Centrair Airport, which was opened for the World Exhibition Expo 2005 ( Centrair is written in Japanese セ ン ト レ アSentorea ).

In a referendum ( jūmin tōhyō ) on the municipality merger on February 27, 2005, the merger was rejected.
