The Kėdainiai minaret (lit. Kėdainių minaretas ) is one of the few minarets in Lithuania . It is located in the city of Kėdainiai , on the northern outskirts of the city in the area of the Kėdainiai Main Park , between the Kėdainiai Railway Station and the Dotnuvėlė River .

history

Kėdainiai minaret

The minaret was built in 1880 by the Russian general of German Baltic origin Eduard Iwanowitsch Totleben (1818–1884) to commemorate the Russo-Turkish War . The minaret has Turkish characteristics. According to legends, such a tower supposedly stood next to the Pleven Mosque, which E. Totleben often visited during the war. Totleben probably designed the minaret himself and had it built in the park from 1880 to 1882. From the minaret, the acting "chief" of Kėdainiai and its surrounding settlements showed his guests the park and its manor. The building is currently abandoned.
