history
The naval base Cuxhaven existed with interruptions from 1905 to 1991. The Imperial Navy built the mine forces here and initially stationed six torpedo boats in Cuxhaven. At the end of the First World War , around 300 anti-mine vehicles were in Cuxhaven.
The minesweeper memorial and the surrounding wall as parapet were built according to plans by Lieutenant Erich Bodanowitz and inaugurated on June 9, 1935 at a minesweeper meeting.
The builder was the Hamburg minesweeping comradeship, which honored the dead of the minesweeping associations. A real sea mine from the First World War was placed on the 4.5 m high memorial.
From 2005 to 2008 it was renovated by a development association.
