The Cuxhaven radar tower , also known as the Cuxhaven port control tower , in Cuxhaven , Bei der Alten Liebe / Axel-Bundsen -Ufer, is a Lower Saxony monument and is included in the list of architectural monuments in Cuxhaven .

history

The seven-storey 34 meter high radar tower of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Office in Cuxhaven (WSA) from 1960 stands on 64 wooden stakes on the Elbe fairway and is part of the land radar chain in the Elbe estuary. It was inaugurated by the Federal Transport Minister Hans-Christoph Seebohm (CDU). Radar towers established themselves alongside the conventional navigation signs from the 1950s. On the top floor which was located to 1996 nautical registration office (until 2008 in Steubenhöft). In 1996 the tide direction indicator was shut down. The webcam at the Cuxhaven radar tower went offline in 2019 (now at Steubenhöft).
Today (2020) it is also referred to as the port control tower and also houses the Havariekommando (Am Alten Hafen 2) as a joint facility of the federal government and the coastal states.
