The company was founded in 1996 as a spin-off of the Thenamaris shipping company, and in 1998 it gained administrative independence. In 2003, 10 ships that had previously sailed under the Maltese flag were reflagged to Greece. The shipping company followed a call by the Greek government to the shipping companies to put less on flags of convenience.
