List of apple varieties |
The Minister von Hammerstein , also Hammerstein , is a variety of the cultivated apple . This was bred in 1882 from seeds of the Landsberger Renette at what was then a college for fruit growing in Geisenheim . The first fruits appeared in 1891 and were commercially available from 1895.
The variety was named after the Prussian Minister of Agriculture Ernst von Hammerstein-Loxten .
Fruit characteristics
Ripens in mid-October, the fruit lasts until February. Doesn't wilt on the camp. The medium-sized rather flat apples have a smooth, medium-firm skin and are yellowish green. Further characteristics of the peel are its fine speckles, and the washed-out color is light brownish orange. The pressure-sensitive cultivar is prone to fruit rot , and also to small fruit if the hangings are too rich.
Features of the tree
Has vigorous growth when young, later weaker. Forms a broadly spherical crown and is suitable for the fruit hedge and all small forms of education. The variety is resistant to wood and flower frost, it is susceptible to scab , powdery mildew , blood lice and cancer .
