Mirgorod

Mirgorod ( Russian Миргород ) is a collection of short stories by the Russian poet Nikolai Gogol . It is named after the Ukrainian city of Myrhorod (Russian: Mirgorod), near which he spent his childhood and youth. The volume of stories is subtitled: Stories that form the continuation of the " Evenings in the hamlet near Dikanka ".

Based on the literary figure of Taras Bulba and his two sons Ostap and Andrej, this novella describes the way of life and the raids of the Ukrainian Cossacks in Poland in the 16th century, which culminated in the campaigns of Bogdan Khmelnitsky in the years 1648 to 1652.
