Mitchell Beazley Publishers Limited is a British book publisher specializing in atlases, reference works, nature books, cookbooks, gardening books and wine books.

history

In July 1969, James Alexander Hugh Mitchell (born July 20, 1939 in Epping , England) and John Beazley founded the Mitchell Beazley company in London. They were financed by the publisher George Philip . At the Frankfurt Book Fair in 1969, they presented themselves for the first time with the Moonflight Atlas written by Patrick Moore . First titles to be published in 1970 were The Mitchell Beazley Atlas of the Universe by Patrick Moore and Golden Sovereigns by Nicolas Bentley . In 1976, a joint venture project with the Dutch publisher International Visual Resource was launched, in which the ten-volume encyclopedia The Joy of Knowledge (German: New Encyclopedia of Knowledge ) was published. That same year, Mitchell's partner John Beazley died of cancer at the age of 44. Successful books that were published by Mitchell Beazley were The Joy of Sex (German: Freude am Sex ) by Alex Comfort and the Pocket Wine Book (German: Little Johnson ) by wine expert Hugh Johnson . Johnson's first wine guide was published in 1977 and has been published every year since. In May 1987 Mitchell Beazley was sold to the Octopus Publishing Group.
