Mithridates I (Parthia)
Mithridates I ( Persian مهرداد Mit'radāta , also Arsakes VI. Euergetes , called Philhellenos ("friend of the Greeks"); * around 195 BC Chr .; † 132 BC BC) was from around 165 BC. Until his death King of the Parthians . He came from the Arsacid family and was the son of King Phriapatios . Mithradates expanded the Parthian Empire by conquering western Iran ( Media , Persis) and Mesopotamia from the Greek Seleucids and parts of the Greco-Bactrian Empire . 140/139 BC He defeated the Seleucid king Demetrios II on his campaign to recapture Iran. As a result of this victory, Mesopotamia came under direct Parthian rule and Demetrios II was taken prisoner.
