Middle-distance migrant
In ornithology, species are referred to as medium- distance migrants whose migration routes are typically between those of short- distance and long-distance migrants. There are flowing transitions and also individual exceptions. Medium-distance migrants can easily cover 6,000 kilometers or more between the breeding area and winter quarters, which actually corresponds to long-distance migrants. In contrast to these, medium-distance migrants move in numerous stages and therefore correspond more to short-distance migrants in terms of their physiological properties. Medium-distance migrants are for example the chiffchaff or many thrush species .
