The Mittendorf striped grass mouse ( Lemniscomys mittendorfi ) is a rodent in the long-tailed mouse family that is found in Cameroon .

features

The species reaches a head body length of 85 to 98 mm, a tail length of 75 to 85 mm and a weight of 22 to 34 g. It has 19 to 22 mm long hind feet and 13 to 15 mm long ears. The fur on the upper side has a distinctly dark brown basic color and a central black eel line . The eel line is followed by eight light lines on both sides, which consist of rows of light spots. The spots in the top three rows are clearly visible, while the lower lines appear bright throughout. On the underside, the fur consists mainly of gray hairs with white tips. On the chest, the tips of the hair are rather light yellow-brown. The Mittendorf striped grass mouse has light brown dark circles and a light brown snout. The tail, covered with short hair, is black on top and white on the underside.

distribution and habitat

This striped grass mouse is only known from the area around Mount Oku and Lake Oku, which are located in western Cameroon. The species can be found on mountain meadows at an altitude of 2100 to 2300 meters. There are isolated bushes in the distribution area.

status

It is not known to what extent grazing pets affect the population. The IUCN lists the Mittendorf striped grass mouse as endangered (vulnerable) due to its limited range .
