Pedestrian zone with Mittertor

The Mittertor is the only surviving of five city gates in Rosenheim .

history

It has been the connection between Max-Josefs-Platz and Ludwigsplatz since the 14th century. The first gate construction dates from the 14th century. After the big fire in Rosenheim in 1641, the upper floors and the tower were built in their current form. The customs office was housed there from 1444 and 1759. It also contained several municipal facilities such as the town clerk's room until the 19th century.

Municipal Museum

The City Museum Rosenheim has been housed in the Mittertor since 1885. This houses one of the most important regional historical collections in Southeast Bavaria with 5000 objects that show the history of Rosenheim and the region from the Stone Age to the 1950s. For example, you can see original bourgeois bedrooms from the 18th century.
