The district Wasa Amenfi East is a District of the Western Region of Ghana . It emerged from the Wasa Amenfi District just a few years ago.
Climate and nature
Wasa Amenfi East is located in the rainiest zone in Ghana, the south is covered by tropical rainforest. There are four forest reserves. The first rainy season extends from March to July, the second from September to early December. The largest rivers are Ashire and Manse .
Economy and Transport
Even by Ghanaian standards, the district is economically underdeveloped. A study of the district's economy finds it characterized by "low production and low productivity". Agriculture, in which 60% of the employees work, is characterized by high post-harvest loss rates due to insufficient storage and distribution options. Produced coffee , palm oil , rubber , cola nuts and cocoa and plantains , cassava , maize , rice , tomato and pepper . There is no industrial processing of the agricultural products on site. Most of the farmers cultivate their land using very traditional methods and the average farm size is low. The local capital that is available to a small extent is invested outside the district, and the “ human capital ”, i.e. well-educated people, also leave the district. The road network is in such a bad condition that in many cases hauliers either refuse to use it or charge unusually high freight prices.
There are potential tourist attractions, but hardly any tourist infrastructure. There is development potential in the mining sector through deposits of kaolin , bauxite , diamonds and gold .
