from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The publisher E. S. Mittler & Sohn GmbH is a German publisher that has existed since 1789 . As part of the Tamm Media Holding , it is one of the oldest still existing publishing houses in Germany.

history

The publishing house was founded in 1789 by the print shop owner Wilhelm Johann Heinrich Dieterici in Berlin . Since the company founder had no male descendants, the publishing house took the name of his son-in-law Ernst Siegfried Mittler . In the course of time, his family received special privileges from the Prussian royal family. The publishing house and printing company grew into one of the largest publishing houses in Germany and employed a workforce of several hundred people in the late 19th century.

To this day, the focus of the publishing program has been on military history literature, security policy publications and contemporary history works. For example, the Nauticus was relocated at Mittler. The Mittler publishing program also included a wide range of school books, scientific publications on history and philosophy, but also aesthetic literature, statistical yearbooks and maps.

The publishing house is in Hamburg, where today's publisher, Peter Tamm , also comes from. Today the publishing house E. S. Mittler & Sohn is connected as a sister company with exactly the same old Koehler's publishing company .
