Average length of stay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mean length of stay ( MVD ) is a term from the new accounting system of German hospitals ( Diagnosis Related Groups ).

It specifies the length of stay or lying time for which a reduction in the relative weight has to be determined per day if the patient falls short of this and is simultaneously transferred from another hospital and / or to another hospital. This regulation is intended to take into account that when a patient is treated jointly by two or more hospitals, the individual revenues ( DRG ) must be reduced.

The MVD and the associated relative weight are determined for each DRG from the currently valid DRG catalog (currently G-DRG 2006).
