Mkoani
Mkoani is a city in Tanzania . After Chake-Chake and Wete, it is the third largest city on the island of Pemba, part of the Tanzanian state of Zanzibar, and the central administrative center of the Pemba South region . Mkoani is about 25 km south of Chake-Chake. In Mkoani there is a jetty built in the early 1990s with EU support, which as a ship and ferry pier is of great importance for the connection of the island to Zanzibar, Dar-Es-Salaam , Tanga and Mombasa (there are only rarely ship connections here, however ).
The population was 11,000 in 2013. The main occupations of the population are agriculture, small shipyards and public administration. The hospital Abdalla Mzee Hospital in Mkoani is also a major employer and the main hospital on the island. It was built with Chinese help.
