Moab (Old Testament)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moab was the progenitor of the Moabites in the Jewish Tanach or in the Christian Old Testament .

According to the representation of Genesis ( Gen 19.30-38  EU ) Moab is a son of Lot . The conception of Moab is poorly presented in the Bible: The daughters of Lot made their father drunk and "lay down with him", which means that they had sexual intercourse with him. Both daughters became pregnant. The older daughter gave birth to Moab, the younger named her son Ben-Ammi . Lot was the father and at the same time the grandfather of the two, who subsequently became the progenitors of whole peoples: Moab became the progenitor of the Moabites, Ben-Ammi the progenitor of the Ammonites . Since Lot was a nephew of Abraham , the two brother peoples were related to the Hebrews and the Israelites , respectively .

In other written sources, they first appeared in the 13th century BC. On an Egyptian inscription.
