Mobile smoke trap

Mobile smoke trap, the clamping frame is only in the upper third of the door.

A mobile smoke shutter (also called smoke, smoke protection or fire curtain) is a means of modern fire fighting . It enables the access door to be opened in the event of a fire in a building and prevents or reduces the spread of hot and toxic smoke into areas that are not yet smoky.

The smoke trap consists of a non-flammable cloth that is attached to a metal frame. This metal frame is stretched into a door frame with a spreader bar and the hanging cloth closes the door opening to a large extent even when the corresponding door is opened.

Since the fire brigade approaches burning rooms or smoke-filled areas in a crouched position, the smoke trap is only opened in the lower area of the door. The hot gases from the fire, on the other hand, are predominantly up on the ceiling and can therefore hardly escape from the room. If the mobile smoke trap is used in combination with tactical ventilation , this further increases its effectiveness. In this case, practically no smoke escapes through the door. However, it should be noted that there must also be an exhaust air opening in the smoky area.

The aim of this technology is to keep the hot fire gases out of other rooms or even stairwells. The toxic and corrosive components of the smoke are therefore not dangerous for residents or property. In particular, smoke-free stairwells are very important for rescuing people in the event of a building fire. Furthermore, hot gases could accumulate further up in the building and possibly cause another fire elsewhere.

As a stationary device, the smoke curtain is installed in buildings to prevent the smoke from spreading .
