The Moira was the world's first fully welded tanker and was sold to the Norwegian shipping company Damps in 1935 by the Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend , Great Britain . Marna A / S (Sigurd Owren) in Oslo . It was used in the worldwide tank journey.

On June 17, 1942, the Moira was torpedoed on a trip from Galveston to Vera Cruz by U-158 off Corpus Christi and later sunk by shots from the on-board cannon, whereby a man of the tanker crew was killed.
