There is little data to tell how long the Cuellar windmill was in operation. Various documents from the 16th century prove that the place where grain was milled was known as the Molino de Viento de Cubo . In the middle of the 18th century, the mill is listed in the land register of the Duke of Albuquerque's possessions and was part of a property at the foot of Castillo de Cuéllar . In 1931 the mill was declared together with the Castillo as the Monumento Artístico Nacional .

In 2007 the owner at the time, Juan Miguel Osorio, bequeathed the mill and the surrounding land to the city. Today the Molino El Cubo is part of the eight hectare garden and recreation area Parque de la Huerta del Duque in Cuéllar.
