Monochromatic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monochromatic refers to a living being that has only one type of color receptors ( cones ) in the retina .

Seals and most whales only have one type of cone that absorbs optimally in the green part of the spectrum. It is also found in all lower vertebrates .

There are also rare genetic diseases in which patients do not have cones at all; this is also called rod monochromatic .
