Monocyte Activation Test
The monocyte activation test (MAT) is used to detect febrile substances in drugs.
The test simulates a natural immune response to a feverish reaction caused by a pyrogen . Human whole blood is used for the test. The test without animal testing offers the possibility of finding other fever-inducing substances in addition to pyrogens and endotoxins .
In 2010, the MAT was included in the European Pharmacopoeia as MAT monograph 2.6.30 and approved for the USA by the Food and Drug Administration two years later .
