Monsoon angle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monsoon angle is the angle between the prevailing wind directions of a monsoon in January (wind direction winter monsoon) and July (wind direction summer monsoon). The monsoon angle is read off from a comparison of the wind maps averaged over many years (one map each for January and July) of the corresponding regions. It represents the most important monsoon criterion , whereby only monsoon phenomena from a monsoon angle of 120 ° are classified as monsoons (monsoon angle criterion according to Chromov 1957).
