Daniel Petrie

Daniel Petrie (born November 26, 1920 in Glace Bay , Nova Scotia , † August 22, 2004 in Los Angeles , California ) was a Canadian director .

Daniel Petrie began his career as an actor on Broadway, but focused on directing from an early age. He made a name for himself as a director of ambitious TV films as well as movies. One of his best known works is The Bronx (1981) with Paul Newman .

He has received numerous awards for his work, including three Emmy awards and the Directors Guild of America award . He won a Genie Award for Best Screenplay for The Bay Boy in 1985 . Daniel Petrie died of cancer on August 22, 2004.

His sons Daniel Petrie, Jr. (* 1951) and Donald Petrie (* 1954) also work as directors.
